Pioneer DEH P5200HD Receiver Direct Control Dont waste your time and buy a better version of these or a whole different car stereo

Not designed for AM reception, drivers or man hands, The P5200HD sounds good and if that is all that matters then read no more. However, if you want a unit that can be operated while you are driving then read on. This review is not intended to criticize Pioneer for their poor design of the P5200HD, but rather offer Pioneer suggestions for improving their car stereos. Question to Pioneer: are your units tested in a moving vehicle by real drivers? I'm guessing the answer is NO because this unit is difficult to use while driving a car. Question two: do men with medium to large hands ever test these models? My guess is NO becuase the buttons are tiny and designed for girls or men with skinny fingers - I'm not a big guy (5'8" 175), but my not so skinny hands cannot get all of the buttons to function becuase they are too small and almost flush with the front of the unit. I have to use a sturdy pencil with a thich eraser to preset some of the radio stations and even that doesn't work every time. Additionally, the AM reception is terrible, but that might be cuased by an improper installation or other factor not attributed to Pioneer.

Dear Pioneer: please make your buttons bigger and test the radio with a real driver on a real highway with real size hands and see if he/she can navigate the system without having to pull over or use a pencil. Thank you.
Doesn't work and awful customer service, We received this as a Christmas present; we installed it correctly and it didn't work. My husband spent half an hour on the phone and they were completely useless. We ended up having to take the product to a licensed electrical shop for fixing; they were waiting on a part for WEEKS. This is ridiculous. I will never purchase another Pioneer product ever. I'm in favor of returning this one, it's that awful and useless, but we haven't received the "fixed" stereo yet. I will be surprised if it works.
Great deack, but not everything they tell you is there, I bought this new deck for my 2000 jeep cherokee sport, and it is great quality and a great deck! the only issue is they list it coming with a wiring harness, which icnt true at all, which is why this gets 4 stars instead of 5. overall good product, just a heads up about the harness, itll run youabout 20 bucks extra.
It's got everything!, What else do you want? It's got HD radio, ipod control, front USB, itunes tagging, supertuner III.
Problem with the HD radio, for the most part this stereo is a great stereo, but when it comes down to the sound quality it cuts in and out of hd radio and causes it to get louder and quiter all the time and makes the song jump around also. it will do for now until i can replace it.
Dont waste your time and buy a better version of these or a whole different car stereo, First off my connection wires to the speakers did not work at all! I didnt want to waste another 2 weeks shipping them back and receive another stereo so i ended up hooking them up to a 4 channel amp. Everything else is OK ive had better car cd players just upgrade to a better version of these or buy a whole different stereo.
Very Good Pioneer Unit, This a very good radio unit, I was coming from a DEH 1700 which was ok for the most part. The 5P5200HD has alot of features that you can use to fine tune your listening experience. I however dont like one thing about the radio is the volume knob its kinda a hard to turn down the radio very quickly i.e. the grip is not very good, but this problem is very small in comparison to what the radio has to offer.
Great radio with few cons, Great radio with a few cons first I shall say the sound from this radio is amazing and I love the features and the Hd stations the only issue I have is the master control is a little difficult to get a hang of also it seems to have lost some of fm the radio stations that my 20 year old factory radio picked up with out any issues in all though I am loving this radio.
deh-p500ub horrible to use, I have the deh-p500ub and it's the most user UNFRIENDLY unit I have ever owned. I follow the instruction and the result doesn't occur. Very, very poor reception when useing the radio and the radio does not interact well with the antenna. I have to entor a 15 second screech when ever I power my unit up.
Great product for the price, After about a week with this installed, I'm fairly impressed with the quality of my new stereo. While a little difficult to navigate options at first, you soon get the hang of where things are and how to get there. Here's a tip. Don't try and figure out how to use it while driving. Setting and navigating to presets for radio stations is really easy (which was a must for me) and when the HD kicks in for a particular station, it sounds amazing. Just the other day I turned on the car and my girlfriend asked me if we were listening to a CD or the radio.

The only problem I have is not being able to quickly change audio levels on the fly (like bass, treble, balance, etc.) because they require a bit of navigation to get to. If you listen to CD's, this probably won't be much of an issue as you'll set it once for the disc and can forget about it. But it can get a little annoying when you're music comes in different genres and levels of quality at random (like it would on shuffle with an iPod or iPhone). I will say that overall, my music sounds much better through this deck than the stock one for my 2001 Honda. Can't see how it can get much better than this in terms of style and available features for the price.
