  • Great receiver for the price. I was shopping around for a new receiver to replace an older Onkyo 805 that was given to me by my brother. The front panel display not longer lit up when I was using it. I had looked at other brands such as Sony Pioneer Denon and Harmon Kardon. I have an older Pioneer dvd player that supports both SACD and DVDAthe model number is DVD563so I needed a unit that supported mulitchannel analog audio inputs.
Great receiver for the price After reading reviews and doing some research I finally settled on the Yamaha RXV667 as my receiver of choice. I noticed that Amazon had the RXA700 which is esentially the same device as the RXV667 just with better build quality and better warranty for about $30 cheaper so purchasing the RXA700 was a no brainer. Setup and speaker calibration was a breeze I am using this receiver to drive polk speakers in a 5.1 setup BIC F12 sub using the back surround connections to biamp my front tower speakers.
Not sure what I'm missing here This receiver is probably fine for home theater applications. The variety of inputs is also very good but for audio I love the listening experience from a wellrecorded wellproduced CD or a highbitrate download. I got this receiver to use as a preamp for a B&K ST140 power amp with Paradigm 9se speakers. I used to use an old Denon receiver and a pretty inexpensive one as a preamp. When a drum was hit you could hear the reverb and even the change of pitch as the sound of the drum decayed. It was as though the drum was in the room with you. When a sax was played you could hear spit on the reed. When a piano was played you could hear which brand the piano was if you were familiar enough. I want the clear punchy present sound I got from THAT system and frankly the same B&K amp and Paradigm speakers with this Yamaha as a preamp sounds like a transistor radio by comparison. It sounds distant flat not at all dynamic and very underwhelming. So I tried bypassing the B&K power amp and just hooked the speakers up to the Yamaha. Result is still flat distant and extremely underwhelming. I'm returning it.
Volume OnScreen Display CAN'T Be Turned Off For some users this may not be a problem at all but for me this was a dealbreaker with the 700. If you want to raise or lower the volume on the 700 an onscreen display blocky and ugly shows up near the middle of the screen every time. There is NO WAY TO DISABLE THIS! For me I will often adjust the volume while watching TV or a movie and having this onscreen display be permanently activated ended up making me sell the 700. I didn't want to look at it every time I touched the volume.Tellingly the newer Yamahas DO let you turn the display off so I would suggest buying a 710 or any of the X10 models instead. Yamaha ought to update the firmware for the 700 to at least give users the option to turn the OSD on/off but so far they haven't and likely won't. Otherwise the unit is great just riddled with this one rather significant issue.
Sounds much better than my Denon AVR2807 and my Onkyo SR805 Excellent receiver for the price period. It's my first Yamaha gear and it sounds much better than my previous Denon AVR2807 or my Onkyo SR805 that weight twice the Yamaha and end up on fire I will never buy Onkyo anymore. I was surprised how musical is this receiver. It's hooked up as a biamp to a pair of polk LSI9 and sound pretty good. When you know that those speakers are 4 ohms and need a lot of power. Beside the 2 HDMI output and a little more power there is no such a big difference between the A700 the A800 and the A1000. The A1000 has network function and SVideo input. But the rest is the same Preamp Dac Video processing.
Yamaha RXA700 I purchased this to replace a 6 year old Denon. I needed more than two HDMI inputs which is what made me upgrade. I have a 7.1 speaker system that is all matching Yamaha so I was interested in the new Yamaha series to match. The HDMI worked well since I have a HTPC hooked up to it. The Denon didn't pass the HDMI from my PC. This is only 90 watts per channel and my Denon was 120. It is a big difference and I wish i would have spent a little more and got 120 watts per channel. The reciever cuts out when I hit 0 on the volume. The sound quality of this Yamaha is better than the Denon though. I will give up the punch of the Denon for the quality of the Yamaha. It really does sound good. I recommend this as long as very loud music isn't needed.
Good receiver with bad service The receiver is awesome and delivers what it claims to deliver and wiring it is as easy as it can be. But after six months I ran into a weird problem the receiver would shut down completely! every 15 or so minutes. I tried running a fan beside it changing cabinet changing the location of receiver run minimal load to ensure the heat is properly dissipated and the unit is not heavily loaded yet couldn't solve the problem. So I approach an authorized dealer!!! Oh boi NIGHTMARE starts! Yamaha and their authorized repair center service sucks. My receiver is sitting in the repair shop for more than a month! And it is thanksgiving next week and I bet I won't have my unit ready. I was initially informed it is a Capacitor and now am informed the whole board needs to be replaced. And the repair shop tells me Yamaha hasn't sent in parts and of course when I call Yamaha I get to talk to the Machine! I write this review out of frustration if you haven't still figured out. So I take two stars off for their pathetic service wish I can take off all of them!. I intentionally don't mention the name of the repair shop but I reside in 01824 neighborhood.I always loved Yamaha's equipment but that shall change indeed.
Gets the job done.. but not 100% Amazon is a certified reseller of Yamaha so the warranty is legitimate. It has every codec and feature you could want except USB and network connectivity but I have it plugged into a media center PC so that isn't an issue. I read upgrading the firmware is a real pain because of the lack of network support but I haven't tried it myself actually I haven't been able to even get the firmware version to display despite doing exactly what is told of me online special button combination to make the version display on the receivers front display. The only REAL complaint I have about this product is that it will not mix the audio coming from the HDMI output on my Nvidia GT 520 graphics card. This graphics card supports all the HD digital audio codecs DTS HD Dolby TrueHD etc and can produce 192hz/24bit audio yet when I play music from itunes through this receiver it refuses to remix the audio into surround sound just says unavailable when trying to change to dolby or neo surround. It would seem any PCM signal this puppy receives it will not touch only play through which means I only get 2.0 audio on my 7.1 speaker system when playing music from my itunes library. It work's fine for blu ray players and will play back 5.1 when watching an HD ripped movie in the .mkv file format using VLC media player but it seems incapable of remixing audio whatsoever when coming from a HDMI connection from a media center pc??? Aside from this the product works as advertised and has decent Menus and features albeit no network connectivity or usb input. Also when enabling the enhancer which upmixes compressed audio to higher fidelity similar idea to the crystalizer on soundblaster sound cards I hear absolutely no difference maybe I need some insane speaker system I don't know.
Great product I have owned Yamaha products since the 1980s and they have never dissapointed me. They are dependable great sounding work horses and when I needed to upgrade my 14 year old still working fine but needed HDMI RX995 there was no question that I would purchase something Yamaha. This receiver is terrfic!! I have no reservations about reccomending Yamaha or this receiver.
Excellent Mid Range AV receiver I bought this to replace a failing 10 year old Sony. I looked long and hard and read MANY consumer and professional reviews. Near the end it came down to a different Yamaha 667 and this one. It was almost a flip of the coin as both were rated very highly. I went with this model and haven't looked back. Frankly either one would make a great replacement start of a new system. Now this acts as the hub of my home entertainment system.
