  • Declining Tecnology One day owner! The vendor is still updating the firmware but the AIOS is at the end of its life. The XIOS is the new product in town. If you only want to stream video its fine. But I wanted to store video on a 2TB internal hard drive. The transfer rate over a wired network is DEAD SLOW. The user interface is also not for the faint to heart. Just getting files on the device is a pain. The owner's manual is a joke and you really need to get a copy of the FAQ's off the vendors website. Even with that anything more than just viewing video is not intuitive. This device is more of a geek hobby item is not ready for primetime. Yes I'm a geek and it's not the type of playing I want to do.Back in the box it goes and back to Amazon.

Not ready for release I would like to love this media player but I couldn't.I am searching for a media player which can play all those new HD movies with Dolby TrueHD audio as my
Beats the hell out of the NEO TV 550 I've struggled with being an owner of the Netgear NEO TV 550. Terrible support with no firmware updates as promised and Netgear has let hundreds of owners down. That isn't the case with this product! I spent quite a bit of time trying to find a replacement and felt that at this price it was a nobrainer. The only drawback is that the device shines when you install an internal hard drive. I installed a 2 TB 5400 stays cooler RPM hard drive and hooked it up via USB 3.0 and transferred all my BD file folders and hooked it up to my TV and it scanned and was ready to go. ISO images don't work as well. I simply copied the front box art to the root folders and it instantly recognized the images and displayed everything perfectly. The NEO does support BD menus but I could care less about that. It played the movies smoothly and perfectly right from the start. The one drawback is that the only way you can stream from your PC over your home LAN is by going to the file folders and know which file to load. They need to get this worked out and will have the ultimate device. I own a ROKU XS so the available apps don't compare and nothing works as good as the Roku when it comes to streaming. It's so nice to not deal with a device that doesn't freeze up or get recognized by my TV. Since this device is open architecture there are many other 3rd party firmware options not like the NEO.
An excelent Media Center but consider better if you buy it for the extras my issues USB 3.0 and Networking I bought the pivos and selected it over other options many other Media Centers cost pretty much the same now because all the offerings but it has been dissapointing me in many fronts but my main concerns are the following.1. The built in USB 3.0 port is reported to exist to use the Pivos as an enclosure you should use the USB 2.0 ports to use an USB 3.0 external hard drive. At first I believed that this unit will take the most of my USB 3.0 3 TB My Book. But it looks like it can be only connected to the USB 2.0 ports so It is very missleading the USB 3.0 support claim I was not able to find a USB 3.0 cable to test connect the My Book disk to the USB 3.0 port in the pivos but I found statements about this NOT being possible.2. I have problems accessing the pivos from my computers. The pivos is attached by ethernet to the Internet Router. I've tried the following Many ethernet cables Accessing from Windows and Linux Ethernet and Wireless connections Windows XP and Windows 7 Desktop laptop Firmware versions original official update and semiofficialTo discard pivos performance I have done all test with the unit doing absolutelly nothing no playback. The wired computer tests have been done with the computer connected to the same Internet router the pivos is connected to. I even switched the pivos and the computer cables ports on the router to discard router failure.I have no issues sharing files between all my three computers.Sometimes I can see the Pivos shares painfully browse files and folders but I can't copy files to and from the pivos. I tried ping but it starts to fail with packets of 100 bytes and never response with packets from 1000 bytes. At first I was unable to browse internet but the firmware update 3.0.1.7 fixed something but slow and the semiofficial 3.0.1.7 R19 made the internet browsing much better.
Really good player Minor glitch intermittent This is a great replacement to my HTPC I previously had. It boots up quick and plays everything I have thrown at it even things that were not playable via VLC Player. I only had the HTPC to play/stream across my home network. gigabit.Pros* Plays every format I have with no issues..I have everything from AVI MP4 MKVetc.
Fantastic Player I bought this because of the hot swap HDD. its a great feature since i can sync with my PC. The multiple input options are a plus.Off the bat the unit is sleek and attractivelooks much nicer than a cable box. The remote is quite detailed and slightly sluggish as most are. I recomend using HDMI for better quality. So far I haven't used networking but I am enjoying not having to use multiple DVD's.
Allaround media player Plays everything has good FW updates and custom FWs decent speed. If you want to store your media in the player this is the one. I use my 15TB regular SATA drive. It can also play from windows shared folders or USB drives perfectly. Subtitles audio channels never caused any problems. The cooling fan could be somewhat more silent but is more then tolerable.
jumbo sized version of patriot box office If you already have a Patriot Box Office media player you may want to pass on this one. Although a bit larger to hold 3.5 drives the Pivos seems to have much of the same internals as the PBO. Both have trouble playing the same files and both are slow at detecting attached drives even internal ones. Also both have the same web interface to their builtin torrent downloader. The main difference between the Pivos and the PBO is the Pivos's ability to accept internal hard drives up to 3TB in size. The PBO can only accept drives up to 1TB. Supposedly the Pivos can properly play BluRay images and can play the navigation menus as well as the movies. This is true but only for some BluRay images. If it doesn't like them it simply will not play them at all.
Plays many file formats does everything else badly. Pros1 Plays many file formats.Cons1 Worst remote ever. It does everything badly.2 Cooling system not effective. Expect your drive to die quicker because of high temp.3 UI is clunky and slow.4 Network speeds are incredibly slow. writing to disk slow but streaming from the disk is ok. Note this appears to be a fault in the chip used and can't be fixed with software update!5 User manual is a joke.6 This product seems to be near the end of it's life so updates to firmware will probably stop being made.SummaryThis product has great specifications but does not do any of them well with the exception of playing most file formats. For reference I have owned and used WD tv Roku Apple tv Linux htpc and windows media center.
