Problems at first but figured out solution and now works great I've read several reviews for this digital frame and similar ones made by SmartParts where the unit turns off frequently or even doesn't turn on. Mine did the same thing after I loaded the first group of pictures on it. Sometimes it turned off after several minutes sometimes it only turned off when I went to the settings menu. I was even more frustrated when I read about the same problem for other SmartParts Digital Frame owners. Then I realized that the light sensor setting that turns it off in low light must be set to ON by default. I had to turn the unit on in a very brightly lit room to keep it on. I am not sure where the sensor is but it seemed to work better when I had the back of the unit towards the light. Then I was finally able to get in to the settings menu and turn the light sensor setting to off.
Consumer Reports is Wrong I've had this frame for a while and although it's okay for still pictures beware if you want to display video clips. The video would not play directly from a flash drive only from an SD card and then without any sound. I tried recoding my video clip to different formats and only the uncompressed .avi file copied from the camera would play. Calling the 800 number provides a recommendation to email for faster service. Any response by email takes at least a day with the answers never seeming to match the questions. The web page provides a tutorial for a firmware upgrade without any link to download the actual firmware upgrade file. I have a feeling this company consists of one person working part time out of their garage. I bought this originally based on the Consumer Reports rating and they really got it wrong.
Product works well until it breaks This product works nicely until it breaks. It is quite fragile.
save your money This frame has been the biggest waste of money and time. The company is no longer in business and there is obviously no tech support. The frame uploaded pictures initially but we have been unable to edit those first pictures from the frame. When connected to my computer it forces a crash. Please do yourself a favor and buy a reputable frame from a nonchinese company.
Don't rotate pics No instructions with this frame but what I found was that depending upon the camera used pictures I'd previously rotated on my computer in a separate photo program which is how I like to store them right side up were automatically rotated again. So a tip is to NOT rotate first. On a separate note. Had the frame for 1 year when pictures started denegrating on the builtin memory. i.e. streaks across the pictures where they only partially painted. I deleted the pictures off and recently reloaded so I'll see how long that works.
No customer support I purchased an SP8EM for my sons last year. Nice wooden frame and worked OK for about 10 months. Screen went blank and no option phone number or tech support capabilities exist with this company so beware.
Excellent pictures for the last 4 years! I have owned 2 Smart Parts digital picture frames for 4 years and 2.5 years respectivly. They run all day every day. I used to turn them off at night but it has been years since I bothered. I am very pleased with them. The ones I own are the SPX8 and the SPX7E.Yes the company is just assembling components from other manufactures. However if you know the electronics industry you know this is common. And they probably don't have much in the way of customer support. On the other hand this is a $100.00 photo frame just how much support is really needed? I have never called Smart Parts so I do not have any first hand experience of their customer service. The frames are easy to use and the picture quality is excellent. The frame has several folders that you can store photo albums in. That allows you to keep your Christmas photos in one folder and vacation photos in another and switch between the two. I also use one of the folders to keep all the pictures in so I can see them all scroll by instead of just the photos from vacation Christmas or whatever. The autosizing software also works well. Yea it takes a while to resize 500 photos. Be patient grasshopper. It is worth the wait.Recently the older of the 2 frames the SPX8 stopped working. Since I have both I tried plugging the power cord from the other one into the SPX8. Sure enough the problem wasn't the frame but the 12 volt power cord. It was harder than it needed to be to find a 9VDC 2A power adapter with the 5.5mm plug. I found one at []. Their part number is 1952847 and the cost was $15.95. I thought that was pretty reasonable for a frame that has been on for over 1200 consecutive days.
Died after a year My experience coincides with two camps of reviewers I see here phenomenally good quality for a digital frame but then it dies after only a year. The frame has been stellar in its display of digital pictures though its interface is irritatingly unintuitive but you can live with it because the display is so good. Then inexplicably roughly twelve months after I got it it would not turn on again. I've confirmed that it's the frame not the power adapter. For the price it should not fail so soon.
Nice for a digital photo frame newbie This is the first digital photo frame I've purchased. I had no prior experience with them.I found it easy to use. You can take pictures on vacation and come home and pop them right into the frame to view them. There is also internal memory that will store some photos without needing the camera card.If you like you can take photos from your computer and put them on the frame either with a camera card or a USB cable. That isn't hard either.Oh and this photo frame is brown which I LOVE! So many digital frames are black which doesn't go with my decor. The only flaw I've found is that it claimed to be 'motion sensitive' and would turn itself off when no one is there. That doesn't seem to happen. I've left it on all night and in the middle of the night it is still running. But that is a minor complaint. I'm happy with this product.
Good picturehorrible ease of use. The SPX88inch frame has nice pictures but the software is the biggest piece of garbage. In a time that programs are becoming very user friendly and advance the software and firmware from Smart Parts is taking a step backwards 10 years. It's like working on Windows 311 in todays environment. In trying to upgrade the firmware they list two files but hyperlink to the first file is broken and you can't download it. You can download the second file but it doesn't work though it is supposed to more recent versions.I also have bigger fingers and using the rocker switch on the top is very inconvenient. If I had to do it over I would avoid any Smart Parts frames.I consider myself a competent computer person and love most technology except this digital frame.
